Le comparatif : bigger, better, more interesting

Le comparatif anglais suit une règle simple :

Adjectifs courts (1 syllabe, certains à 2) : + -er

• big → bigger (consonne doublée)
• fast → faster
• small → smaller
• happy → happier (y → i)

Adjectifs longs (2+ syllabes) : more + adjectif

• interesting → more interesting
• expensive → more expensive
• beautiful → more beautiful

Comparatifs irréguliers (à apprendre par cœur !) :

• good → better (bon → meilleur)
• bad → worse (mauvais → pire)
• far → farther / further (loin → plus loin)
• little → less (peu → moins)
• much/many → more (beaucoup → plus)

Mot de comparaison : than (que).

• London is bigger than Berlin. (Londres est plus grand que Berlin.)
