Irregular Past Tense
The four most common verbs are also the four most irregular in the past. Brace yourself — and then notice the cruel joke at the bottom.

The cruel joke: ser and ir have identical past forms. "Eu fui" can mean "I was" or "I went". Context decides — and it almost always does.
