Opinioni e Dibattiti

Esprimere opinioni con il registro giusto

  1. 1

I reckon, I'd say: dire la tua

Da un morbido *I reckon* a un deciso *without a doubt* — e perché *secondo me* non si traduce *according to me*.

    • Apri la tua opinione in base alla forza: I reckon / I think → I'd say → In my opinion → Without a doubt.
    • I reckon è colloquiale; I'd say ammorbidisce senza togliere forza.
    • Secondo me non è according to me: di' in my opinion o I think. E metti sempre il soggetto: it's too expensive.
    • Si nega think: I don't think it's a good idea.
    • I think so / I don't think so / I hope so / I hope not — mai I think yes.
    • Per chiedere: What do you think of…?, What did you make of…? — mai How do you think?

Not bad, quite good: l'understatement britannico

Perché *not bad* è un complimento, *quite good* può essere tiepido e *a bit of a nightmare* è un disastro.

    • L'inglese britannico attenua: not bad = molto buono; a bit of a nightmare = un disastro; not ideal = un problema serio.
    • Interesting, detto con una pausa, nasconde spesso dei dubbi.
    • Quite + aggettivo graduabile è tiepido (quite good); con un aggettivo assoluto è «completamente» (quite right).
    • Not very + aggettivo positivo critica con tatto: It wasn't very good.
    • Per fare un complimento vero: really good, lovely, brilliant.

    I couldn't agree more: essere d'accordo e dissentire

*I agree* (mai *I'm agree*), *you're right*, *fair point*, *I see it differently* — e il misterioso *yeah, no*.

    • I agree (with you) — mai I'm agree; al negativo, I don't agree o I disagree.
    • Hai ragione è You're right, non you have reason.
    • Accordo: I suppose so → fair enough → exactly → I couldn't agree more.
    • Disaccordo con tatto: I'm not so sure, I see your point, but…, I see it differently.
    • On the contrary è forte: usalo con moderazione.
    • In yeah, no, conta quello che viene dopo.

Mind you, having said that: i connettivi per discutere

I connettivi che legano un ragionamento alla britannica — e due falsi amici pericolosi: *actually* ed *eventually*.

    • On the one hand…, on the other… — sempre con on.
    • Mind you aggiunge un «però»; having said that / that said sfuma quello che hai appena detto.
    • To be fair, then again e at the end of the day sono da conversazione; in un'email, however.
    • Actually = in realtà; attualmente = currently / at the moment.
    • Eventually = alla fine; eventualmente = if necessary / possibly.
