Questo & Quello
Italian has two demonstratives (not three like Spanish): questo (this, near me) and quello (that, further away).
Questo behaves like a normal adjective: questo / questa / questi / queste. Quello, on the other hand, behaves like the definite article when it comes before the noun (il → quel, lo → quello, l' → quell', i → quei, gli → quegli).
| Near (this) | Far (that) | |
|---|---|---|
| masc. sing. | questo | quel / quello / quell' |
| fem. sing. | questa | quella / quell' |
| masc. plural | questi | quei / quegli |
| fem. plural | queste | quelle |
Examples: questo vestito (this dress, here), quella camicia (that shirt, there), quei pantaloni (those trousers, there).
