Writing a professional email

French business emails are more formal than English ones — the greetings and sign-offs are fixed and quite elaborate. An email that would be two curt lines in English begins with « Bonjour Madame, » and closes with a full « Cordialement, ». Very formal letters still end with a whole sentence: « Je vous prie d'agréer, Madame, mes salutations distinguées ».
