a, an oder the?

Im Englischen gibt es nur drei Artikel — und alle drei sind ungeschlechtlich. Das macht es viel einfacher als im Deutschen, wo es bei jedem Substantiv der, die oder das zu lernen gibt.

• a — unbestimmt, vor Konsonant-Laut (a book, a house, a university — university fängt im Klang mit j an!)
• an — unbestimmt, vor Vokal-Laut (an apple, an hour — hour hat ein stummes h!)
• the — bestimmt, immer (the book, the apple, the books, the apples)

Die Faustregel für a/an richtet sich nach dem Klang, nicht dem Buchstaben.
