Comparing Things

To compare two things in Italian, you wrap the adjective in a sandwich:

Structure	Meaning
più [adj] di	more [adj] than
meno [adj] di	less [adj] than
(così) [adj] come	(just) as [adj] as

Note: Before nouns and pronouns you use di (più alto di me). But when you compare two qualities, or a preposition follows, you use che (più bello che utile — more beautiful than useful).

Everyday examples

Questo vestito è più bello di quello. — This dress is more beautiful than that one. Questa camicia è meno cara di quella. — This shirt is less expensive than that one. Questa borsa è grande come quella. — This bag is as big as that one.
