Avere — the other key verb
Avere means to have — the third indispensable verb alongside essere and stare. It's irregular, but so common that you'll get a feel for it quickly. One quirk: the h at the start of a word is always silent — ho is simply pronounced "o".
One thing that surprises English speakers: age is expressed in Italian with avere. You "have" years: ho ventidue anni (I'm 22 years old — literally: I have 22 years).
