Modal Verbs and the Near Future
With the modal verbs pouvoir (can), vouloir (to want) and devoir (must), you say what you can, want or must do. A modal verb is always followed by another verb in the infinitive (the dictionary form): je peux venir, tu veux manger, nous devons partir.

Le futur proche — the near future
To say what is about to happen, French uses aller (to go) + infinitive — literally "I am going to … do". There is no new tense to learn: je vais faire, tu vas partir, ils vont arriver.
