Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns
To avoid repeating a noun, French replaces it with a pronoun — but, unlike in English, the pronoun goes before the verb. "I see it" is literally "I it see".
Direct object pronouns (le, la, les)
The direct object pronouns are me, te, le/la, nous, vous, les — they answer "whom/what?". They stand directly before the conjugated verb: Je le vois ("I see him/it").
Indirect object pronouns (lui, leur)
When the action goes to a person (with à), French uses lui (to him/to her) and leur (to them): Je lui parle, Il leur donne le livre.
