Like, love, hate e o comparativo do inglês

  1. 1

I love cooking: o que você gosta de fazer

Do love ao hate, os passatempos com -ing, play ou play the — e o falso amigo support.

    • love → really like → like → don't mind → don't like → hate; I don't like it at all = não gosto nem um pouco.
    • Sem of e, em geral, sem artigo: I like football — e very much vai no fim: I like football very much.
    • Atividades com -ing: I love reading, I don't mind waiting.
    • play football (sem the) · play the guitar · listen to music · go swimming.
    • support um time = torcer; não suporto = I can't stand.

Prefer e would like: escolher e oferecer

Prefer tea to coffee, like this more than that — e a diferença entre Do you like…? e Would you like…?

    • prefer X to Y: I prefer tea to coffee — com to, nunca than, mesmo que a gente diga prefiro … do que ….
    • like X more than Y: I like the bus more than the Tube — aqui sim, than.
    • Do you like…? = você gosta? (em geral); Would you like…? = você quer?, aceita? (uma oferta).
    • I'd like é a forma educada de I want; com verbo, to: I'd like to go.
    • Se tanto faz: I don't mind — melhor que I don't care.

    Better, worse, the best

Os comparativos que fogem da regra e o superlativo: o melhor parque de Londres — com in, não com of.

    • good → better → the best; bad → worse → the worst; far → further.
    • Nunca more good nem more better.
    • Superlativo: the -est (the cheapest, the biggest, the busiest) ou the most (the most beautiful).
    • “O melhor … de” um lugar: in — the best pizza in London; com tempo, of — the best day of my life.
    • the best thing about… = o melhor de…

    O fim de semana perfeito

Parque, sofá ou cinema? A Marina, a Luana e o Marcos discutem o programa de domingo — e aprendem a chegar a um acordo em inglês.

    • Propor: What shall we do?, How about going…?, Let's go…!
    • agree é verbo, como concordar: I agree, I don't agree — nunca I am agree.
    • stay in = ficar em casa; go out = sair.
    • Comparar opções: better than, worse than, almost as big as, a better idea.
    • prefer + -ing ou to + verbo: I prefer staying in, I'd prefer to watch a film.
