    • Plurali irregolari: foot → feet, tooth → teeth.

I've got a headache: come ti senti

Dolori, febbre e raffreddori con have got, «I feel…» — e perché constipated non vuol dire «raffreddato».

    • Quello che hai: I've got / I have + a headache, a sore throat, a cough, a cold, a temperature, flu.
    • -ache è «mal di»: headache, stomach ache, toothache, earache, backache.
    • Con be, non con have: I'm hungry, thirsty, cold, hot, tired.
    • feel, senza «mi»: I feel ill, I don't feel well, I feel better. Domanda: How are you feeling?
    • Falsi amici: constipated = stitico; I feel sick = ho la nausea.
    • A chi è malato: Poor you! · Get well soon!

At the GP: una visita dal medico

Prendere un appuntamento, spiegare da quanto tempo stai male — e come funziona la sanità pubblica britannica.

    • Per prendere un appuntamento: I'd like to make an appointment, please.
    • Da quanto tempo: I've had + sintomo + for + durata (for three days) o since + momento (since Monday). Mai since three days.
    • How long have you had…? — Da quanto tempo hai…?
    • need to + verbo: You need to rest.
    • L'NHS è gratuito al momento della cura; emergenze 999; problemi non urgenti 111.

At the chemist's: medicine e istruzioni

Chiedere qualcosa per la tosse, capire le istruzioni di un medicinale — e perché le pastiglie si «take» ma il caffè no.

    • the chemist's (UK) = the pharmacy = la farmacia; negli Stati Uniti, drugstore.
    • Per chiedere: Have you got anything for…? · Can I have…, please?
    • Le medicine si take: I take a tablet. Il caffè invece con have — mai take a coffee.
    • Frequenza: once / twice / three times a day, every four hours, after meals, on an empty stomach.
    • In Inghilterra le ricette hanno un prezzo fisso, con molte esenzioni; in Scozia, Galles e Irlanda del Nord sono gratuite.
