Zero & First Conditionals — the Real

Em inglês existem quatro conditionals (frases com if). Os dois primeiros descrevem situações reais — verdades gerais e futuros prováveis. Não tem hipótese aqui, ainda; só causa e consequência.

Zero Conditional — verdades gerais

If + Presente, Presente.

Descreve algo que vale sempre. Você pode trocar if por when sem mudar o sentido.

• If you heat ice, it melts. — Se você esquenta o gelo, ele derrete.
• If you press this button, the light comes on. — Se você aperta este botão, a luz acende.

First Conditional — futuro provável

If + Presente, will + infinitivo.

Descreve um futuro real e provável. A parte do if fica no Presente; a outra usa will (ou 'll, won't, might, may).

• If the train is late, I*'ll text** you.* — Se o trem atrasar, eu te mando mensagem.
• If you don't hurry, you*'ll miss** the bus.* — Se você não se apressar, vai perder o ônibus.
