The Near Future (Ir + Infinitive)

The Near Future (Ir + Infinitive)

Brazilians have a "real" future tense (comerei, falarei) — but in everyday speech, they don't use it. Instead, they conjugate ir in the present and stick the infinitive next to it.

Pronoun Ir + infinitive Meaning
Eu vou viajar I'm going to travel
Você / Ele / Ela vai viajar you/he/she is going to travel
Nós vamos viajar we're going to travel
Vocês / Eles / Elas vão viajar you (pl)/they are going to travel

This works for any verb, no exceptions. Vou comer, vou dormir, vou estudar. It's the future tense Brazilians actually live in.
