Irregular Comparatives

Four adjectives refuse to follow the regular "mais [adj]" pattern. They have their own comparative forms — and you'll hear all four every day.

Adjective	Comparative	Meaning
bom / boa	melhor	better
mau / má (or ruim)	pior	worse
grande	maior	bigger
pequeno / pequena	menor	smaller

These work just like English: "Esta loja é melhor" — "This shop is better." Don't say "mais bom" — it's wrong everywhere in Lusophone world.

The plural is regular: melhores, piores, maiores, menores.
