Object Pronouns
Once you start saying things like "Marcos called Luana" twice in a row, you need pronouns to replace the names. Portuguese has two flavours: direct (the person/thing the verb acts on) and indirect (the person you're giving/saying something to).
| Person | Direct | Indirect |
|---|---|---|
| me | me | me |
| you (sg) | te / o, a | te / lhe |
| him / it | o | lhe |
| her / it | a | lhe |
| us | nos | nos |
| you (pl) / them | os, as | lhes |
In everyday Brazilian the pronoun goes before the verb: "Eu te vejo amanhã" (I'll see you tomorrow). The textbook "vejo-te" feels stiff in Brazil.
