The Future Tense (Futuro semplice)

To talk about the future, there is the futuro semplice. With -are and -ere verbs the stem vowel becomes -er-, and with -ire verbs it becomes -ir-; then come the endings -ò, -ai, -à, -emo, -ete, -anno.

Some common verbs shorten the stem — but the endings stay the same:

Note: For the near, planned future Italians often simply use the present: "Domani vado a Firenze" — "Tomorrow I'm going to Florence." For something about to happen, you say stare per + infinitive: "Sto per partire" — "I'm about to leave."
