The -er verbs and asking questions
The largest, friendliest family of French verbs ends in -er (like parler, to speak). They all follow one pattern: drop the -er to get the stem, then add the endings. After that you'll learn three ways to ask a yes/no question.

avoir is irregular and indispensable: j'ai, tu as, il a, nous avons, vous avez, ils ont.

Asking questions
French offers three ways to ask a yes/no question, from casual to formal: intonation (Tu parles français ?), putting est-ce que in front (Est-ce que tu parles français ?), and inverting verb + pronoun (Parlez-vous français ?).
