New concept

Più … di, meno … di

Italian compares with più (more) and meno (less) — there's no -er ending like cheaper:

Italian English
Questo vestito è più elegante di quello. This dress is more elegant than that one.
La gonna è più cara della camicia. The skirt is more expensive than the shirt.
Le scarpe sono meno care degli stivali. The shoes are cheaper than the boots.

Than is di — and it merges with the article like any preposition: della camicia, degli stivali, del blu.

The adjective still agrees with what you're describing: la gonna è più cara, le scarpe sono meno care.
