Three modal verbs

Volere (to want), potere (can, to be able to) and dovere (must, to have to) are all irregular — and all three are followed directly by an infinitive, with nothing in between:

Pronoun volere potere dovere
io voglio posso devo
tu vuoi puoi devi
lui / lei vuole può deve
noi vogliamo possiamo dobbiamo
voi volete potete dovete
loro vogliono possono devono

  • Non posso venire. — I can't come.
  • Marcos deve studiare. — Marcos has to study.

Don't forget the accent on può.
