New concept
Same mind or different mind
Finnish agrees and disagrees with mieli (mind) in the partitive: literally I am of the same mind / of a different mind.
| Agreeing | Disagreeing |
|---|---|
| Olen samaa mieltä. — I agree. | Olen eri mieltä. — I disagree. |
| Olen samaa mieltä kanssasi. — I agree with you. | Olen vähän eri mieltä. — I don't quite agree. |
| Totta. / Aivan. — True. / Exactly. | Ei pidä paikkaansa. — That's not right. |
| Juuri niin! — Precisely! | Ehkä, mutta… — Maybe, but… |
| Siinä olet oikeassa. — You're right there. | Olet väärässä. — You're wrong. (blunt!) |
| Olen osittain samaa mieltä. — I partly agree. | Riippuu siitä, … — It depends… |
Kanssa (with) follows the genitive or takes a possessive suffix: sinun kanssasi or just kanssasi.
