New concept

Pronouns have their own object forms

When the object is a pronoun, the total object doesn't end in -n — the personal pronouns have a special -t form:

Pronoun Total object Partial object
minä minut minua
sinä sinut sinua
hän hänet häntä
me meidät meitä
te teidät teitä
he heidät heitä
se (it) sen sitä
ne (they, things) ne niitä

The same rules choose the form:

  • complete → total: Näen sinut huomenna. — I'll see you tomorrow. Otan sen. — I'll take it.
  • ongoing, a feeling, or negative → partial: Rakastan sinua. — I love you. En ota sitä. — I won't take it.
