Adjectives go first — just like English
Finnish adjectives come before the noun, as in English: iso talo — a big house, pieni koira — a small dog. Or after olla: Talo on iso. — The house is big.
| Finnish | English | Finnish | English |
|---|---|---|---|
| iso / suuri | big | pieni | small |
| uusi | new | vanha | old |
| hyvä | good | huono | bad |
| kaunis | beautiful | ihana | lovely |
| hauska | fun, funny | mukava | nice |
| onnellinen | happy | väsynyt | tired |
And since there's no gender, the adjective is the same for everyone: Marcos on väsynyt. Marina on väsynyt.
To say very, put hyvin in front: hyvin kaunis — very beautiful. In speech you'll often hear tosi (really): tosi kiva.
