The one-word future
Spanish has a second future: a single word, like viajaré (I will travel) or será (it will be). For everyday plans, ir a + infinitive is more common. The one-word future sounds firmer and more formal: it's the future of promises, predictions, weather forecasts, the news and formal emails — ¡Volveré! (I'll be back!).
It's easy to form: take the whole infinitive and add the endings — the same for -ar, -er and -ir verbs:
| Pronoun | Ending | Viajar | Ser | Ir |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| yo | -é | viajaré | seré | iré |
| tú | -ás | viajarás | serás | irás |
| él / ella / usted | -á | viajará | será | irá |
| nosotros | -emos | viajaremos | seremos | iremos |
| vosotros | -éis | viajaréis | seréis | iréis |
| ellos / ellas / ustedes | -án | viajarán | serán | irán |
Every form except nosotros carries a written accent.
