New concept
Before you read
In this lesson you'll follow Luana through a whole day in Madrid. You already have most of what you need — reflexive verbs, the time, the parts of the day. A few new words first:
| Spanish | English |
|---|---|
| el despertador — suena el despertador | the alarm clock — the alarm goes off |
| despertarse — ella se despierta | to wake up — she wakes up |
| desayunar | to have breakfast |
| ir andando — ella va andando | to walk, go on foot — she walks |
| la oficina | the office |
| comer | to eat; to have lunch |
| merendar — ella merienda | to have an afternoon snack |
| volver a casa — ella vuelve | to go back home — she goes back |
| sentarse — ella se sienta | to sit down — she sits down |
| cenar | to have dinner |
| prepararse para | to get ready for |
Despertarse and sentarse change e to ie — me despierto, se sienta — and volver and merendar change their stems too: vuelve, merienda. Prepararse is regular: se prepara.
