Il Passato

Il Past Simple dei verbi regolari

  1. 1

    • Ortografia: live → lived, study → studied, play → played, stop → stopped, travel → travelled (britannico).
    • yesterday, last night, last week, last Saturday — last senza the.

    Went, saw, bought: gli irregolari

I passati irregolari più frequenti — e was e were, il passato di to be.

    • Gli irregolari più comuni: went, had, did, made, ate, drank, saw, bought, got, took, came, said, lost.
I went, she went, they went.
    • was (I, he, she, it) / were (you, we, they) — ero, sono stato, fui.
    • How was…? — Com'è andato…? It was brilliant!
    • Dove l'italiano dice fare: had lunch, had a shower, took photos.

    Did you…? I didn't: domande e negazioni al passato

Did fa al passato quello che do fa al presente — e il verbo torna alla forma base: didn't go, mai didn't went.

    • did è l'ausiliare del passato, uguale per tutti: Did you…? / I didn't…
    • Dopo did e didn't, il verbo alla forma base: Did you go? I didn't buy it. Mai didn't went.
    • Risposte brevi: Yes, I did. / No, I didn't.
    • Con una parola interrogativa: Where did you go? What did she say?
    • To be non usa did: Were you tired? — Yes, I was.
    • Se who è il soggetto, niente did: Who ate the cake?

Un fine settimana nel Lake District

Last weekend, two days ago, first… then…

    • last weekend, last month, last year — last senza the.
    • ago va dopo, come fa: two days ago = due giorni fa.
    • Per raccontare in ordine: first… then… after that… in the end.
    • In britannico: at the weekend e travelled, con doppia l.

Have you ever…? Il present perfect

Have/has + participio: esperienze (ever, never), un periodo non ancora finito (today, this week) e novità (just, already, yet) — e quando non usarlo.

    • have / has + participio (sempre have, mai be): I've seen, she's gone; regolari = passato (worked), irregolari da imparare (been, done, seen, gone, eaten).
    • Esperienza senza quando: ever / never — Have you ever been to Scotland?
    • Periodo non finito: today, this week, since May — I've drunk three coffees today.
    • Novità: just, already prima del participio, yet alla fine — I've just eaten. I haven't finished yet.
    • Passato prossimo + quando concluso (yesterday, last week, in 2019) → past simple: I saw him yesterday, mai I have seen him yesterday.
    • Il britannico usa il present perfect più dell'americano: I've just eaten / I just ate.
