Dimostrativi, confronti e vestiti

    This, that, these, those

    Questo e quello, senza genere ma con il plurale — e this one per non ripetere il nome.

    • Due distanze: this / these (vicino) e that / those (lontano).
    • Niente genere: this dress, this shirt. Ma il numero sì: this → these, that → those.
    • This («dis») e these («diiz») suonano diversi.
    • Senza ripetere il nome: this one, the blue one, the black ones.
    • Per il prezzo: How much is this? / How much are these?

    Vestiti, colori e taglie

    Trousers, jumper, trainers: i vestiti in inglese britannico, il colore prima del nome e come chiedere la tua taglia.

    • wear = indossare, avere addosso: She's wearing a dress.
    • In britannico: trousers, jumper, trainers — e pants sono le mutande.
    • Trousers e jeans sono plurali: they're new, try them on, a pair of jeans.
    • Il colore va prima e non cambia: two red dresses; anche la sfumatura va prima: light blue, dark green.
    • In negozio: What size are you?, Can I try it on?, the changing rooms, I'll take it.
    • Una 42 italiana è, più o meno, una 10 britannica.

    Cheaper, more expensive: fare confronti

    -er per le parole brevi, more per quelle lunghe, than per il «di / che» — e as … as per la parità.

    • Aggettivi brevi: -er than — cheaper than, bigger than, prettier than.
    • Aggettivi lunghi: more … than — more expensive than. Mai more cheaper.
    • Il «di / che» del comparativo è than — non of, non that.
    • as … as = (così) … come; not as … as = non così … come.
    • costs more / costs less; e due irregolari: good → better, bad → worse.

    Vintage a Camden

    Quanto costa? Mi fa uno sconto? Marina e Luana vanno a fare shopping a Camden — e trovano un cappotto verde.

    • How much is it? / How much are they? — It's £40.
    • cheap, expensive, a bit expensive; it costs less.
    • Fare confronti: more beautiful than, cheaper than, as beautiful as.
    • Can I pay by card? — a Londra quasi tutto si paga contactless.
    • Nei negozi di solito non si tratta; alle bancarelle a volte sì: Would you take thirty?
    • We'll take… = Prendiamo…
