Verbos Importantes

do/does — auxiliar para preguntas y negativas

  1. 1

Do, go, want: hacer, ir, querer

Tres verbos que usarás en casi cada conversación: does y goes con -es, go home sin «to» y want to + verbo.

    • do → does, go → goes: does suena «das».
    • do = hacer (do yoga); crear algo suele ser make (make a cake).
    • go to + lugar, pero go home; y go shopping, go swimming.
    • want to + verbo: I want to go — nunca I want go.
    • Quiero que vengas = I want you to come, nunca I want that you come.
    • Preguntas: What do you want to do? Where does he go?

Can, have to, must: poder y tener que

Lo que puedes hacer y lo que tienes que hacer — sin «to» detrás de can, y sin confundir mustn't con don't have to.

    • can = poder / saber hacer algo: igual para todas las personas y sin to — She can swim.
    • Can hace preguntas y negativas solo: Can you come? — I can't.
    • have to = tener que: I have to work, she has to work, con do / does en preguntas y negativas.
    • don't have to = no hace falta; mustn't = está prohibido.
    • must también obliga, pero suena más fuerte; en la conversación es más común have to.

Me, him, her, us, them: pronombres de objeto

Te quiero → I love you: en inglés el pronombre va detrás del verbo — y conmigo es, sin más, with me.

    • Los pronombres de objeto van detrás del verbo: Luana helps me. I love you.
    • me, you, him, her, it, us, them — you e it no cambian.
    • Las cosas son it (o them): I love it.
    • Tras preposición, también objeto: with me (conmigo), for you (para ti). Me too!
    • Give me, tell her, show us: la persona va justo detrás del verbo, sin to. Y tell me, nunca say me.

    Making plans: quedar en Londres

Invitar, aceptar, decir que no con tacto británico y fijar día, hora y lugar — con Marina y Luana planeando el sábado.

    • Invitar: Do you want to…?, Let's…!, Shall we…? — sin to tras let's y shall we.
    • Aceptar: I'd love to!, Sounds good!, Agreed!
    • Decir que no, con un motivo: I'm afraid I can't — I have to work.
    • Fijar el plan: on Saturday, at three, in front of the museum.
    • Maybe another time o Let's see son a menudo un «no» amable.
    • with me = conmigo; I'll meet you… = te veo…
