Going to…
The everyday way to talk about the future is ir in the present + an infinitive — just like English going to:
| Pronoun | Ir | + infinitive | English |
|---|---|---|---|
| eu | vou | viajar | I'm going to travel |
| você / ele / ela | vai | ficar | you're / he's / she's going to stay |
| nós | vamos | comer | we're going to eat |
| vocês / eles / elas | vão | sair | you're / they're going to go out |
Only ir changes; the second verb stays in the infinitive. A gente takes vai, as usual: A gente vai viajar.
In conversation, this is the future — it covers English will as well: Amanhã eu vou trabalhar. — I'll be working tomorrow.
