Who gets the action?
In Luana helps me, Luana does the helping and me receives it. Words like me, you, him and us are object pronouns. In Brazil they normally go before the verb — just like the me and se of eu me levanto:
| Subject | Object | Example |
|---|---|---|
| eu | me | A Luana me ajuda. — Luana helps me. |
| você | te | Eu te ajudo. — I'll help you. |
| ele / ela | o / a | Eu o conheço. — I know him. |
| nós | nos | O Marcos nos convida. — Marcos invites us. |
| eles / elas | os / as | Eu as conheço. — I know them. |
Some regular verbs to use them with: ajudar (to help), convidar (to invite), entender (to understand), encontrar (to meet; to find), amar (to love), levar (to take) and mostrar (to show).
With two verbs, the pronoun goes between them: Você pode me ajudar? — Can you help me? You've used this one before: Pode me trazer…?
