Five ways to say “send it to me”
The same request can be made in five registers, each with a different social distance:
| Expression | Register | Where you'd use it |
|---|---|---|
| Mandamelo subito. | very informal | close friends |
| Me lo mandi? | informal | a colleague you know well |
| Me lo puoi inviare? | neutral | most work situations |
| Potresti inviarmelo? | polite | a colleague you call tu, a favour |
| Potrebbe inviarmelo? | formal | clients, superiors, first contact |
Lei, the formal you, takes the third person — the same verb form as lui / lei: Lei è…, Lei ha…, Potrebbe…? Adjectives still agree with the real person: Lei è stanco, dottore? — Lei è stanca, signora?
The formal imperative is the congiuntivo: Mi dica. (Tell me.) Si accomodi. (Have a seat.) Scusi. Senta. (Excuse me — to get attention.)
