Conceito novo

Five parts, every time

Italian conversation can be relaxed, but written Italian stays formal. Every business email follows the same skeleton:

Part Italian Example
Subject Oggetto Oggetto: Proposta di preventivo
Greeting Saluto Gentile Dott.ssa Bianchi,
Opening Apertura Le scrivo in riferimento a…
Body Corpo what you actually need to say
Closing Chiusura Cordiali saluti, / Distinti saluti,
  • Gentile works for anyone: Gentile Sig.ra Rossi, Gentile Dott. Ferri. Egregio is more formal, for men: Egregio Avvocato. To a company: Spett.le (Spettabile) Atlas Traduzioni.
  • Titles are abbreviated: Dott. / Dott.ssa, Sig. / Sig.ra, Ing., Avv., Prof. / Prof.ssa.
  • The greeting ends with a comma. Cordiali saluti is the everyday sign-off; Distinti saluti is more distant.
