To say what someone is doing right now, Italian uses stare + the gerundio — the -ing form:

Sto parlando con Marina. — I'm talking to Marina (at this moment).

The gerundio never changes. You build it from the infinitive:

prendere	-endo	prendendo — taking
dormire	-endo	dormendo — sleeping

So only -are verbs take -ando; -ere and -ire verbs share -endo.
