Tu ou vous ? Address at work
When to say vous, who offers tu first, and how to keep a whole sentence in the same register.
Abrir lição- Vous is the safe default with managers, clients and anyone new; many teams say tu among equals.
- Vous + first name and Bonjour Madame / Monsieur are both normal at work.
- Keep the register consistent: vous pouvez, votre, vos, asseyez-vous.
- The senior or older person usually offers tu: On peut se tutoyer ? — accept and switch.
- Tutoyer / vouvoyer — to say tu / vous to someone.

Pourriez-vous… ? Requests and push-back at work
A ladder of politeness for requests, ways to say no without saying no — and the false friends of office French.
Abrir lição- Professional requests: Pourriez-vous… ? Auriez-vous… ? Serait-il possible de… ?
- In writing: Je vous serais reconnaissant(e) de bien vouloir…
- Push back politely: Je crains de ne pas pouvoir… — then offer an alternative.
- Cela in writing and formal speech, ça in conversation.
- False friends: délai (deadline), actuellement (currently), éventuellement (possibly), assister à (attend).

Madame, Monsieur… Cordialement: the professional email

- Opening: Je vous remercie de votre message. / Suite à notre conversation,…
- Body: Vous trouverez ci-joint… / Comme convenu,… / Pourriez-vous… ?

Je dirais que…: the job interview
Interview vocabulary, the modest conditional, depuis versus pendant — and Marina's interview for a permanent post.
Abrir lição- Interview words: un entretien, postuler / poser sa candidature, le parcours, un CDI / un CDD, les prétentions salariales.
- The modest conditional: Je dirais que… / J'aimerais… / Si j'étais recrutée, je pourrais…
- Depuis + present for what's still going on: Je travaille ici depuis un an.
- Pendant + passé composé for a finished period; il y a = ago.
- No article after comme or être: comme traductrice.
