Sure or not sure?

An opinion you present as true keeps the indicative. The moment you doubt — by making the opener negative, or by choosing a doubting verb — the verb after que moves into the subjunctive:

Certain → indicative Doubtful → subjunctive
  • Probable is close to certain, so it keeps the indicative; possible leaves room for doubt.
  • In a question with inversion, careful speakers often use the subjunctive too: Crois-tu que ce soit vrai ? In an everyday Tu crois que c'est vrai ?, the indicative is normal.
  • As a short answer: Je ne pense pas. / Je ne crois pas. — I don't think so.
