Going to…

To say what's going to happen, French does exactly what English does: aller + an infinitive. No new endings to learn.

Pronoun Near future of partir (to leave)
je vais partir
tu vas partir
il / elle / on va partir
nous allons partir
vous allez partir
ils / elles vont partir
  • Je vais voyager en France. — I'm going to travel in France.
  • Il va pleuvoir. — It's going to rain.

Only aller changes; the infinitive stays as it is. This futur proche (near future) is what you'll hear most in conversation — for tonight, tomorrow and next year alike.
