Reflexive verbs and telling time

    Je me lève: reflexive verbs

Waking up, getting dressed, going to bed — the verbs you do to yourself.

    • A pronominal verb carries se in the infinitive: se lever, se réveiller, s'habiller, se coucher, s'appeler.
    • The pronoun matches the subject: me, te, se, nous, vous, se — and shrinks to m', t', s' before a vowel.
    • It sits before the verb, and ne … pas goes around the pair: Je ne me lève pas.
    • Se réveiller is waking up; se lever is getting up.
    • On takes the il form: on se lève.
