minusta, and the clitic particles

Minusta, mielestäni: what you think
Giving and asking for opinions — and the salmiakki question, once more.
Abrir lição- Minusta… — I think… (everyday); mielestäni / minun mielestäni — in my view.
- Olen sitä mieltä, että… — I'm of the opinion that…
- Luulen = I suppose (a guess); uskon = I believe (confident).
- Asking: Mitä mieltä olet + -sta? — Mitä mieltä olet salmiakista?
- Ei pidä paikkaansa — that's not true.

Samaa vai eri mieltä? Agreeing and disagreeing
Olen samaa mieltä, olen eri mieltä — and the soft Finnish “no” — in a debate about cars and bikes in Helsinki.
Abrir lição- Olen samaa mieltä (kanssasi) — I agree (with you); olen eri mieltä — I disagree.
- Soften it: olen vähän eri mieltä, olen osittain samaa mieltä, ehkä, mutta…
- Siinä olet oikeassa — you're right there; olet väärässä is blunt.
- No at the start = well…; No, en tiedä… is a polite disagreement.
- Linking: toisaalta… toisaalta, silti, sitä paitsi, loppujen lopuksi.

Elokuvateatteri vai suoratoisto? A friendly debate
Weighing up pros and cons, conceding a point and making a deal — over dinner: cinema or streaming?
Abrir lição- Sen hyvä / huono puoli on, että… — the good thing / the downside is that…
- etu (advantage) and haitta (drawback).
- Myönnän, että… — I admit that… — a gracious way to concede a point.
- Katson mieluummin kotona — I'd rather watch at home.
- Settle it: Entä jos…? + conditional — Sovittu!

-kin, -kaan, -han, -pa: the little tails
Four tiny endings that carry all the tone of spoken Finnish: too, either, after all — and how…!
Abrir lição- -kin = too, also, even — in positive sentences: Minäkin tulen. Bidukin huomasi.
- -kaan / -kään = either — in negative sentences: En minäkään.
- -han / -hän softens or reminds: Sinähän puhut suomea! Tulethan?
- -pa / -pä adds emphasis: Onpa kaunista! Enpä tiedä. Mennäänpä!
- The tails go after every other ending and are never stressed.
