Conceito novo
Certain or not?
After que, the mood often depends on how sure you are. Certainty takes the indicative; doubt and possibility take the subjunctive:
| Certain → indicative | Uncertain → subjunctive |
|---|---|
| Sé que está en casa. | Dudo que esté en casa. |
| Estoy segura de que viene. | Es posible que venga. |
| Creo que tienes razón. | No creo que tengas razón. |
- Creo que and pienso que (I think that) state your view — a soft assertion, so they take the indicative: Creo que va a llover.
- No creo que turns it into doubt, and the subjunctive comes back. The trigger isn't the verb creer: it's how certain you are.
- Es posible que and puede que (it may be that) take the subjunctive: Puede que llueva.
- Unlike quiero que, dudo que works about yourself too: Dudo que pueda dormir. — I doubt I'll be able to sleep.
Here is saber after que: que yo sepa, que tú sepas…
