The word for a / an follows the gender too — but it has only two forms here:

masculine	der Stuhl (chair)	ein Stuhl
feminine	die Lampe	eine Lampe
neuter	das Buch	ein Buch

• Masculine and neuter share ein; feminine adds -e: eine — eine Tasse (a cup).
• Ein also means one: ein Buch is a book or one book.
• Recognise einen from Marcos hat einen Hund? That's the masculine ein after a verb like haben. In this lesson we stay with Das ist… and Hier ist…, where ein doesn't change.
