Six verbs that break the rule
The eu-form trick fails for verbs whose eu form doesn't end in a plain -o — sou, estou, vou, sei, dou — and for querer, which would give a non-existent quera. These six have their own subjunctive, and you'll need them constantly:
| Pronoun | Ser | Estar | Ir | Saber | Querer | Dar |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| eu / você / ele / ela | seja | esteja | vá | saiba | queira | dê |
| nós | sejamos | estejamos | vamos | saibamos | queiramos | demos |
| vocês / eles / elas | sejam | estejam | vão | saibam | queiram | deem |
- Vá and dê carry an accent; it keeps dê (give) apart from de (of).
- Vamos and vão look just like the present.
- Ter, fazer and poder are irregular too, but they follow the eu-form rule: tenha, faça, possa.
Here is ser after que: que eu seja, que você seja, que nós sejamos, que vocês sejam.
