The one-word future

Portuguese has a second future: a single word, like viajarei (I will travel) or será (it will be). Brazilians rarely use it in conversation — that's what ir + infinitive is for. But you'll read it all the time in formal language: the news, weather forecasts, announcements, contracts, formal emails.

It's easy to form: take the whole infinitive and add the endings — the same for -ar, -er and -ir verbs:

Pronoun Ending Viajar Ser Partir (to depart)
eu -ei viajarei serei partirei
você / ele / ela -á viajará será partirá
nós -emos viajaremos seremos partiremos
vocês / eles / elas -ão viajarão serão partirão
