One to ten
| # | Portuguese | # | Portuguese |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | um / uma | 6 | seis |
| 2 | dois / duas | 7 | sete |

Only one and two have a feminine form — they agree with the noun, just like the articles: um prato, uma mesa; dois pratos, duas mesas. From três to vinte, numbers never change.
Um / uma is also the word for “a”, so um livro can mean “a book” or “one book”.
