Two more modal verbs:

• dürfen — may, to be allowed to: Darf ich hier sitzen? — May I sit here?
• sollen — should, to be supposed to — usually somebody else's wish or advice: Der Arzt sagt, ich soll mehr schlafen. — The doctor says I should sleep more.

The pattern you know from können: no ending for ich and er, and dürfen loses its umlaut in the singular — darf. The bracket works the same way, too: modal second, infinitive at the end.

Soll ich…? is also the everyday way to offer help: Soll ich das Brot kaufen? — Shall I buy the bread?
