Il Present Simple e i luoghi della città

    I live, she lives: il present simple

    Un presente con due sole forme — e la -s di he, she, it che non si può dimenticare.

    • Il present simple ha due forme: live e lives.
    • La -s solo con he, she, it o un soggetto singolare: Marina lives, the café opens.
    • -es dopo -s, -sh, -ch, -x e in goes, does; -ies in studies; e has.
    • Serve per abitudini e verità generali: Marcos walks Bidu every day.
    • Il soggetto resta obbligatorio: She lives in London.

    Do you speak English? L'ausiliare do

    Domande e negazioni al present simple con do e does — il pezzo che in italiano non esiste.

    • Domande e negazioni con do / does e don't / doesn't — l'intonazione da sola non basta.
    • Does e doesn't con he, she, it — e il verbo senza -s: Does she live…? She doesn't live…
    • Risposte brevi con l'ausiliare: Yes, I do. / No, she doesn't.
    • Con be niente do: Are you tired? — ma Do you live here?
    • La negazione non è I no speak né I not speak, ma I don't speak.
    • What do you do? = Che lavoro fai?

    Places in town: il quartiere

    I negozi e i luoghi del quartiere, there is / there are, e come dire dove si trova ogni cosa.

    • Luoghi: bakery, bookshop, chemist's, supermarket, corner shop, post office, Tube station.
    • Library è la biblioteca; per comprare libri, bookshop (la libreria).
    • There's (singolare) e there are (plurale) = c'è, ci sono; nella domanda Is there…? / Are there…?
    • Next to, opposite, near, between, on the corner.
    • Via → on (on Portobello Road); quartiere o città → in.
    • Opposite = di fronte a; in front of = davanti a.

    Excuse me, where's the bookshop?

    Chiedi indicazioni, capisci left, right e straight on — e accompagna Marina fino alla libreria.

    • Comincia con Excuse me e chiedi Where's…? o Is there a … near here?
    • Turn left / right, go straight on, take the first / second on the left.
    • At the traffic lights, at the corner, cross the road, opposite.
    • Le istruzioni sono all'imperativo, senza soggetto: Turn right.
    • It's about five minutes on foot = è a circa cinque minuti a piedi.
    • La th: lingua tra i denti — sorda in thank you, sonora in the; mai t, d, s o z.
