The one-word future
Portuguese has a second future: a single word, like viajarei (I will travel) or será (it will be). Brazilians rarely use it in conversation — that's what ir + infinitive is for. But you'll read it all the time in formal language: the news, weather forecasts, announcements, contracts, formal emails.
It's easy to form: take the whole infinitive and add the endings — the same for -ar, -er and -ir verbs:
| Pronoun | Ending | Viajar | Ser | Partir (to depart) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eu | -ei | viajarei | serei | partirei |
| você / ele / ela | -á | viajará | será | partirá |
| nós | -emos | viajaremos | seremos | partiremos |
| vocês / eles / elas | -ão | viajarão | serão | partirão |
