Asking for something
In an Italian farmacia you talk to the pharmacist — il / la farmacista — at the counter. Two polite ways to ask:
- Vorrei qualcosa per + the problem: Vorrei qualcosa per il mal di gola. — I'd like something for a sore throat.
- Ha qualcosa per…? — Ha qualcosa per la tosse? — Have you got anything for a cough?
Note per + the article: per la tosse, per il raffreddore, per la febbre — and even per il mal di testa, although you say ho mal di testa with no article.
What you'll be given:
| Italian | English |
|---|---|
| le compresse | tablets |
| le pastiglie | lozenges, pastilles |
| lo sciroppo | syrup |
| la pomata | ointment, cream |
| le gocce | drops |
