Il corpo — from head to toe
Learn body parts with their article — you'll need it every time you say what hurts.
| Italian | English | Italian | English |
|---|---|---|---|
| la testa | the head | lo stomaco | the stomach |
| gli occhi | the eyes | la pancia | the tummy |
| l'orecchio | the ear | la schiena | the back |
| il naso | the nose | la gamba | the leg |
| la bocca | the mouth | il piede | the foot |
| il dente | the tooth | la gola | the throat |
A handful of body parts have an irregular plural ending in -a — and it's feminine:
- il braccio → le braccia (arms) · il ginocchio → le ginocchia (knees) · il dito → le dita (fingers)
Two more to watch: la mano → le mani (hand is feminine, despite the -o) and l'orecchio → le orecchie.
