Avere: what's wrong

To say what's wrong with you, Italian uses avere + the symptom — and, unlike English, it usually keeps the article:

Italian English
Ho la febbre. I've got a temperature.
Ho la tosse. I've got a cough.
Ho il raffreddore. I've got a cold.
Ho l'influenza. I've got flu.
Ho la nausea. I feel sick.

How high? Ho la febbre a trentotto — I've got a temperature of 38. Italians measure in degrees Celsius, so 37.5 is already un po' di febbre — a slight temperature.

The aches from the last lesson work the same way: Ho la febbre e mal di gola.
