Before you read

In this lesson you'll follow Luana through a whole day in Madrid. You already have most of what you need — reflexive verbs, the time, the parts of the day. A few new words first:

Spanish English
el despertador — suena el despertador the alarm clock — the alarm goes off
despertarse — ella se despierta to wake up — she wakes up
desayunar to have breakfast
ir andando — ella va andando to walk, go on foot — she walks
la oficina the office
comer to eat; to have lunch
merendar — ella merienda to have an afternoon snack
volver a casa — ella vuelve to go back home — she goes back
sentarse — ella se sienta to sit down — she sits down
cenar to have dinner
prepararse para to get ready for

Despertarse and sentarse change e to ie — me despierto, se sienta — and volver and merendar change their stems too: vuelve, merienda. Prepararse is regular: se prepara.
